Grad School Advice #1

For some reason the issue of grad school tuition came up in my French class today. Okay, for a pretty obvious reason- we're all grad students and nothing is more important to grad students than funding. Anyway, the Canadian grad students were all wondering why more Americans don't come to Canuck grad schools and the other American was saying that it was cheaper to go to University of Toronto than any American grad school for her. This leads me to my number one bit of advice for potential grad students in the states:

If you have to pay to go to grad school, you did something wrong.

Do you understand that? Apply to plenty of grad schools, but if they want to let you in, and are not willing to either waive your tuition or give you a scholarship (and preferably both), do not go there.

Got that?
